Semi-Solid Metal Casting
HIDC Overview
Advancing Semi-Solid Aluminum & Magnesium Casting in North America, PSW has launched a new High Integrity Diecasting Center (HIDC) in Ohio, USA, dedicated to advancing semi-solid casting technologies for both aluminum and magnesium alloys.
What is Semi–Solid Casting

Semi-solid casting combines the advantages of conventional high-pressure die casting (HPDC) with enhanced casting integrity.

Instead of injecting fully liquid metal at extremely high speeds, semi-solid casting uses a controlled mixture of solid and liquid metal with a globular (non-dendritic) microstructure to achieve premium castings.

PSW High Integrity Diecasting Center (HIDC)

Located in Bellevue Ohio, USA, HIDC represents a $3M+ investment in advanced casting R&D, prototyping, and industrialization.

The equipment at HIDC includes 1000 Ton LK diecasting machine with high-vacuum system, Rheocasting system for aluminum, and Thixotropic Piston Injection (TPI) system for magnesium.

TPI for Magnesium Semi-Solid Casting

Unlike traditional thixomolding, which relies solely on a screw based injection system, Thixotropic Piston Injection (TPI) separates slurry production from injection. The semi-solid magnesium slurry is transferred into the shot sleeve of  a conventional cold chamber die casting machine.

Rheocasting System for Aluminum Semi-Solid Casting

The advanced Rheocasting system creates a semi-solid slurry by introducing a controlled solid insert (Enthalpy Exchange Material – EEM) into superheated liquid material. The thermal exchange forms a uniform globular microstructure before injection into a conventional die casting machine.
